How to Save Money on Candles

1. Avoid tea lights, which have a short, burn time. If you do want to use tea lights, remove the tea lights from their metal holders and slightly press the bottom to make and area where the wax can pool instead of it being flat.
2. Put your candle in the freezer for a minimum of 3 hrs before burning. It will burn slower and last longer.
3. Trim your wick: It's recommended that you trim your wick about ?A inch before lighting to ensure the candle burns as long as possible.
4. First time use - Let your candle burn till the wax goes out almost to the edge. It will last longer and burn cleaner. Once you use it after that first time, try to avoid burning short periods of time. Burning for at least 3 hrs at a time will help avoid that tunnel effect and lots of wasted wax!
5. Keep candles out of direct sunlight and away from open drafts. If your scented candle doesn't have a lid-find something to cover it as it will help make your scent last longer.
6. Quality not quantity: Its true you pay for what you get. Cheap candles will not last you very long and you'll spend more money. You can use the tips I've mentioned to make those good quality candles last even longer and SAVE!
7. Save your wax. Buy a tabbed wick from a craft store. Get a small mason jar (or whatever you'd like) and then put the wick on the bottom. Take your left over wax (keep it together by colour) and in a covered glass measuring jug... gently melt the wax. Pour it in your mason jar and then let harden. You can then repeat the process for your other left over wax and you'll have a rainbow candle to add to your home. Coleman northstar candle lantern can also pour leftover wax into paper egg cartons and use them as fire starters.
8. Use candle warmers. There's electrical and tea light versions of warmers on the market. The benefit of warmers is usually they last longer than jar candles. There's Rei candle lantern to burn, it's just the scent that is released gently into the air so the wax holds a lot more scent. Electrical warmers there's no tea lights to purchase either and the electricity used is pretty minimal. Some people have also put their jar candles directly on the warmers to gently heat.
9. Look for opportunities to buy multi-packs or buy one get one free. Subscribe to mailing lists with your favourite candle companies for the heads up on when new catalogues are coming out because usually the month's prior there will be sales on seasonal candles and wax bars.
10. Finally only buy scents you love!! If you don't love it you won't use it. Whether you buy regular or flameless candles they are meant to be enjoyed!
